AmCham China in Action

Wondrous Night in Wuhan

On January 9, 2010, the AmCham-China, Central China Chapter hosted at charity event at the Jin Jiang International Hotel. It was the first charity event hosted by a foreign business community in Wuhan, attracting more than 200 guests from over 100 domestic and international organizations, and raised in excess of RMB 75,000.

The night began with live entertainment from a Filipino band and continued with a gourmet buffet provided by the Jin Jiang Hotel. Guests also enjoyed having a go of interactive games and donated their winnings during live and silent auctions. All items up for grabs during the auction were generously donated by the evening's sponsors. Funds raised will be donated to the Hubei Red Cross, which will contribute to improving education services at several disadvantaged schools in the Wuhan area. In addition to the monetary donation, sponsors also generously donated many in-kind gifts including medical check-up cards and stuffed animals for the children.

AmCham-China believes strongly in the value of corporate social responsibility. Michael Barbalas, AmCham-China president, said, “This event helps demonstrate AmCham-China’s commitment in giving back to society. By hosting this charity event, we hope to improve education and contribute to the Wuhan community where our members live and work.”

Janie Corum, AmCham-China, Central China Chapter’s executive committee chair noted: "The grand splendor and size of the event is unparalleled in Wuhan and we were very proud to host it. The Central China Chapter’s executive committee would like to extend a special thanks to all of the generous sponsors. We hope next year more communities and individuals join in this event."
