AmCham China News

AmCham China has a long history of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and giving back to communities around China, and in 2011 the organization successfully expanded its efforts by organizing events in every chamber Chapter. Beijing and Tianjin each have years of charity events under their belts and now recently organized Chapters in Central China and Northeast China (Dalian) have completed initiatives. In both cases, the events were the first of their kind ever organized by a foreign business community in that location.

In 2012 and beyond, AmCham China remains committed to contributing to the sustainable development of the communities where we work and live and to the positive development of Chinese peoples and society.

See the year-in-review below with slideshows from every location.

Beijing
AmCham China held its eighth annual Charity Ball in September 2010. The event raised donations for a special UNESCO program to improve the health conditions and healthy lifestyle awareness in villages in Yunnan and Guizhou provinces for third consecutive year.

AmCham China President Christian Murck, General Counsel Nathan Bush, 2010 Vice Chairs Ted Dean and Mark Duval, and 2010 Chairman John D. Watkins, Jr. embraced the event’s theme, A Night at the Opera, by delighting the audience with their rendition of Nessum Dorum as the Five Tenors. Several of China’s up-and-coming opera singers also performed throughout the evening, which included the always popular live and silent auctions.

This was the third year of AmCham China’s three-year commitment to support UNECSO’s program for rural health and education improvement in central China.

Tianjin

This year marked AmCham China, Tianjin chapter’s ninth annual Charity Golf Tournament. Golfers competed in a variety of categories and took part in an awards banquet, complete with an auction and lucky draw. The Tianjin Chapter and its members raised RMB 180,000 for the Jianhua foundation, a charitable organization devoted to helping disadvantaged people through education and the development of medical and social services in Tianjin.

AmCham China, Central China Chapter (Wuhan)

AmCham China’s Central China chapter got into the spirit of giving by holding two charity galas in 2010.  Each of the two Wondrous Night in Wuhan events hosted more than 200 members, representing more than 100 domestic and international businesses.

Guests tried their hands at a range of interactive games as well as a live and silent auction, with all earnings benefiting the Hubei Red Cross. The combined proceeds for the two events, in excess of RMB 150,000, will help improve education services at several disadvantaged schools in the Wuhan area.

Northeast China (Dalian)

AmCham China, Northeast China chapter held its first Holiday Charity Bazaar in November 2010. The event, co-sponsored by the Blue Phoenix Orphanage Volunteers, held at the American International School, was a huge success, attracting more than 600 members and guests. Festivities included holiday-themed shopping, a silent auction, games and photos with Santa. All proceeds and donations benefited the Dalian Social Welfare Institute.
