Manufacturing and Sourcing Forum Event:
Auto Parts Study – An in depth look
4:00 - 6:00 PM, Thursday, October 15 -China World Hotel, Function Room 12

Before the Chinese government’s stimuli in February 2009 led to an impressive sales growth in passenger vehicles, the domestic auto markets had suffered several months of shrinking demand and general uncertainty. At the same time, the majority of major Chinese auto parts producers were severely impacted by a declining export market.

The AlixPartners 2009 China Auto Supplier Study and Survey is an exhaustive analysis of auto suppliers in China during early 2009. The study is based on interviews with 40 senior executives of leading domestic and international auto parts makers in China, as well as extensive project experience in this sector. The survey has received widespread press attention, including coverage in the Wall Street Journal and on CNBC.

The survey found that auto suppliers in China are performing significantly worse than most of their global counterparts in both profitability and working capital, as companies were both unprepared for and slow to react to the dramatic slowdown in global demand and the temporary domestic market decline at the end of last year. At the time of the survey, more than 40 percent of China’s auto suppliers were expecting severe liquidity issues.

The AmCham-China Manufacturing & Sourcing Forum and the Automotive Forum are pleased that Christian Paul of AlixPartners has agreed to share an in-depth view of the survey results with chamber members, particularly at a time when automotive parts and their status in the Chinese economy is much discussed.  Click here for Mr. Paul’s complete biography. This event is hosted by the Manufacturing and Sourcing Forum, and will be moderated by Dwight Nordstrom, who co-chairs the Forum.
