Local Schools Win Big at Wondrous Wuhan II

The AmCham China, Central China Chapter hosted its second charity event in Wuhan to the delight of more than 200 members and guests from about 80 domestic and international organizations.  The reprise of “Wondrous Wuhan” delivered all the excitement, fun and networking of the original in an event that will help improve education services at several disadvantaged schools in the Wuhan area.

The evening began with Janie Corum, AmCham China, Central China Chapter executive committee (EC) chair, and EC member Jiang Qiqing welcoming all the participants to the Jin Jiang Hotel ballroom and overviewing the night’s activities.  In addition to AmCham members, the charity event also warmly welcomed a number of honored guests including the General Consul from the US Consulate General in Wuhan, Attaché de Culture from the French Consulate and Consul from Consulate General of Korea. Various representatives from other chambers were also present as well as the Wuhan CCPIT and local government officials from the Wuhan Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Department of Commerce of Hubei Province.

The ballroom was alive with activity and laughter as members and guests tried their hands at a range of gaming tables and enjoyed an outstanding buffet.  Silent and Live Auction items were generously donated by over 25 sponsors. Auction items included fine dining restaurant vouchers, health checkups, a digital camera, and a painting donated by the Hubei Art Institute.

The inaugural Wondrous Wuhan gala was held in January and is believed to have been the very first such charity event held by a foreign business organization in Wuhan.  Generous donations from corporate sponsors and attendees at the two events totaled about RMB 150,000, which went to support the efforts of the Hubei Red Cross in helping local schools provide enhanced education services to disadvantaged youngsters.

AmCham China, Central China Chapter would like to extend special thanks to all of its sponsors for helping make the night possible.  Without their support the event would not have been a Wondrous Night in Wuhan!
