February 17, 2016 – The American Chamber of Commerce in China has named as its new president Alan Beebe, who will take up the position March 14, 2016. He takes over from Mark Duval, who left the chamber in January after two-and-a-half years as president.

Beebe joins AmCham China from EY China, where he was Executive Director leading the company’s Cleantech and Supply Chain Management practices. His clients included major global corporations, primarily diversified industrials and high-technology companies operating in China.

Prior to joining EY, Beebe held executive positions with the China Greentech Initiative, IBM, and management consulting firms AT Kearney and PRTM. He has 20 years of management consulting experience in the US, China and other Asian countries helping clients develop and implement sound business, operations and technology strategies.

“Alan’s extensive experience in the public and private sectors in China, as well as the professional relationships he has established over the years, will be a tremendous asset to AmCham China and our member companies,” said James Zimmerman, Chairman of AmCham China. "Alan is unique in that he is a savvy China hand, an astute business executive with broad experience in China’s services, IT and energy sectors, and a recognized China policy expert who is extremely influential and greatly respected and admired by Chinese and Americans alike.”

This year is an important one for the chamber, which will be celebrating 35 years since its reformation in Beijing in 1981. One of Beebe’s first responsibilities will be to welcome senior government officials and businesspeople from around the region to the annual business conference of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce on April 14-15.

“I am excited to be joining AmCham China to help lead the organization and its members at this challenging time in China,” Beebe said. “I look forward to working with both the staff and the members to help all of us navigate the complex business terrain in China and to work with Chinese companies as they expand internationally. I am particularly looking forward to working closely with my long-time friends and colleagues in the AmCham China community.”

Beebe holds a Master’s degree from Yale University in International Relations and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the United States. He is on the Board of Advisors of the Yale Club of Beijing and in that capacity promotes academic and cultural exchanges between the United States and China.  Alan has lived in China since 2002 and speaks Chinese fluently.

The AmCham China president, who reports to the chairman, oversees daily operations of the chamber. Along with the chairman, the president is a designated spokesperson for the organization, and leads the staff in supporting members and achieving the chamber's priorities.
