HR Challenges Companies Face in the Digitalization




Beijing, June 8, 2018 – Human resources challenges and opportunities, along with the evolving digitalization, are increasingly impacting businesses today. At the 19th Human Resources Conference, American Chamber of Commerce in China (AmCham China) invited businesses leaders from multi-national companies to share their “C-Suite Perspectives on Human Resources”.

Keynote speaker, David Hoffman, Senior Vice President and Managing Director at the Conference Board China, analyzed the implications for the businesses leaders and HR professionals of the evolving digitalization while the “long soft ball” in growth in China. “We think there are some terrific things happening in China in the digital space; but for multinationals, the trip is really finding out the new partnerships and equity structures that are all valued and playing in the increasingly combined space.”

“The top three challenges for CEOs are talent, innovation, and digitalization.” Nick Sutcliffe, Executive Director Asia at the Conference Board, said in the keynote speech. “Your job is not just about HR. Your job is also about risk sustainability, innovation, digitalization, customer-centricity. You are no longer HR professionals; You are business professionals who are helping redefine the business, aligned with the strategies of business, and aligned with the executive team.”

By presenting comprehensive views, “C-Suite Dialogue” and “CHROs vs. CFOs Dialogue” discussed the correlation between the business environment and HR opportunities and challenges, business growth and talent supply, HR transformation and ROI, profit and people, and etc.

To echo the theme, AmCham China President Alan Beebe described this year’s HR Conference is not just “HR for HR,” it’s “WE for HR.”  “One of our achievements of the HR Conference this year is a high calibre and comprehensive coverage of stakeholders of acquiring, retaining and developing talents, hitting records on bringing not just HR leaders and professionals, but also senior operation executives, government officials, other senior functional leaders such as CFOs and business leaders, service providers, educators and young talents.” He said, “After all, talent is not just HR’s responsibility, it’s OUR SHARED responsibility.”

Despite these challenges, other speakers highlighted the opportunities and success that exist in the human resources in China. These opportunities were the subject of panel discussions and break-out sessions on topics such as attracting millennial talent and encouraging digital innovations. Speakers included the HR heads and young professionals from numerous AmCham China members, including Dell, Atlas China, VIPKID, and Procter & Gamble Beijing Research & Develop Center.
