The American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization representing nearly 1,000 U.S. companies operating across China, including most of the Fortune 500. The Chamber’s nationwide mission is to help American companies succeed in China through advocacy, insights, relationships, and business support services. With offices in Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, and Wuhan. AmCham China has 25 Working Groups and holds more than 300 events per year.

The Government Affairs and Policy Associate/Manager will support/lead implementation of the Chamber’s relevant initiatives through delivery of traditional and new value-added services in coordination with colleagues across the organization, ensuring maximum member value primarily in the core Chamber areas of Advocacy, Access, and Insights. This will include a primary focus on the design and delivery of AmCham China’s Policy+ subscription service, which features a unique combination of premium-level services including: customized dialogues with members, policy makers, and influencers around timely topics; macro and industry-specific policy insights to support members’ strategies and decision-making; and access to government officials and policy experts.

  • Primary (50%):
    • Primary staff responsible for driving the strategy, design, and delivery of the Policy+ service offering, working in collaboration with relevant colleagues of all AmCham China teams
      • Enable member access to government officials and policy experts to discuss and engage in topics of common interest to Policy+ subscribers
      • Design events with members, policy makers, and influencers around timely topics of interest to Policy+ subscribers
      • Utilize the Policy+ program to deepen chamber relationships with working level government officials
      • Explore and cultivate potential research partner institutions and topics for co-branded projects
      • Develop AmCham China-branded thought leadership, internally and with external partners, on topics of relevance to Policy+ members
      • Prepare and co-deliver briefings on behalf of AmCham China
    • Track, research, and analyze Chinese regulatory and legislative changes and provide policy insights on a regular, timely basis to support members with the formulation of their business strategies, approaches to government engagement, and responses to China’s current and potential policies and policy environment
    • In light of the Chamber’s long-term strategy, leverage Policy+ to initiate innovative and high-impact dialogues (e.g., Track II) to grow the Chamber’s influence, develop thought leadership, and create new, high-level channels for addressing long-standing issues
    • Log member service needs and services delivered in the Dynamics CRM, to populate the member engagement scorecards and enable cross-chamber collaboration
    • For each meeting and event record insights, issue tags, and key interactions with invited experts and member companies in the Dynamics CRM
    • Use Dynamics CRM tagging, surveying and targeting capabilities for all programs to deliver targeted member engagement
  • Primary (30%, cyclical):
    • Lead the planning and execution of the annual Business Climate Survey Report, including securing survey partners, driving member response, and working with the partner to produce the report
  • Secondary (20%);
    • Plan and implement other events, meetings and projects, in close coordination with other members of the GAP and other teams
    • Regularly engage with and provide timely policy support to members, government officials and AmCham China staff
  • University degree and at least 2 years of post-college full-time employment in a role requiring strong analytic, writing, organizational and communication skills (non-Chinese applicants must also be at least 25 years of age prior to position start date for Chinese work permit purposes)
  • Master’s degree in a relevant major/discipline highly preferred
  • Candidates from industry/policy research, consulting, or journalism backgrounds encouraged to apply
  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills, demonstrated in a fast-paced work environment
  • Appreciation for quality and detail gained in a rigorous academic and work environment
  • Critical thinker with strong analytic skills; able to derive conclusions from incomplete information
  • General knowledge of economics, policy and business issues and trends in China
  • Native English or Chinese speaker with exceptional written command of the English language and ability to conduct research and communicate in Chinese
  • Ability to engage with senior corporate executives and US and Chinese government officials
  • Ability to function in a diverse, multi-cultural organization with a high-performance culture
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Office 365 applications (PowerPoint, Teams etc.), and gain mastery of SharePoint, EventBank system and our Dynamics CRM
  • Willingness to commit to working in Beijing for a minimum of two years
