The American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization representing nearly 1,000 U.S. companies operating across China, including most of the Fortune 500. The Chamber’s nationwide mission is to help American companies succeed in China through advocacy, insights, relationships, and business support services. With offices in Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, and Wuhan. AmCham China has 25 Working Groups and holds more than 300 events per year.

Job Overview

At AmCham China the Chair leads the all-volunteer / elected Board of Governors, and the President leads the staff in delivering on the strategic direction set by the board (the President is ex-officio member of the board). The President, as the full-time Chief Executive, is primarily responsible for the effective leadership, goal setting and coaching of the full-time staff in achieving the strategy and performance metrics determined by the board and most directly, Chair. The President is selected by the Board of Governors and reports to the AmCham China Chairman. The President is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Chamber and drives or oversees all Chamber initiatives. The Chair and the President both engage in external advocacy on behalf of the chamber’s membership, but the President’s foremost responsibility is to effective staff leadership and operational excellence in the organization’s function.


Job Duties and Responsibilities

The scope of duties of the President is set forth in the AmCham Constitution, namely, responsibility for the day-to-day management of the operations of AmCham, particularly execution of Am-Cham’s programs and activities and supervision of its staff.


Desired Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Management, leadership and team development, and P&L management experience.
  • Broad experience interfacing with US and PRC governments at the high level including trade and public policy development and implementation.
  • Experience of running a chamber of commerce-type organization is highly preferred: at minimum active prior involvement with a chamber of commerce-type organization.
  • Beijing based.
