Job Overview

Oversee the Chamber’s overall policy and government-affairs related activities, including government outreach, government relationship management, policy insights and analysis, advocacy effort planning, and execution of AmCham’s related strategic priorities and programs. Manages strategic direction and day to day activities of a 5-8-person team.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Primary (50%):

  •  Lead the formation and implementation of policy and government affairs strategies of AmCham China to enhance the Chamber’s influence with China and US government organizations, and support member companies’ policy and advocacy priorities
  • Communicate, engage and advocate the Chamber’s and members’ positions with Chinese and US government organizations
  • Lead, inspire and manage a team of high-performing, dedicated professionals
  • Oversee major projects including the annual White Paper, annual Business Climate Survey (BCS), DC Outreach, Policy+ and policy position papers throughout the year. Develop and implement government and stakeholder outreach strategies. Assess the need/value of new research product offerings

Primary (30%):

  • Strengthen the Chamber’s brand recognition and influence with various government organizations, think tanks, associations, and universities
  • Drive team adoption of AmCham-employed technological programs
  • Lead team implementation and delegation of the five Long-term strategy priorities for the team (enhanced research capabilities, L9, Track II initiatives, social impact, and local engagement), ensuring adequate resources and alignment with/enhancement of BAU

Secondary (20%):

  • Support oversight of Annual Appreciation Dinner
  • Ensure proper support for AmCham China Chapters, Committees and Forum government related activities
  • Serve as liaison between AmCham China and the US Chamber of Commerce to ensure coordination on advocacy efforts, in support of contractual partnership

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  A Master’s degree in Political Science, Public Policy, International Affairs or an MBA from a US university is highly preferred
  • Track record in strategy development, strategic planning and impactful implementation
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (written and verbal) to develop and convey strategies, policies and plans
  • Proven ability to develop lasting relationships and interact professionally with a wide range of Chinese and US government organizations and policy influencers
  • Relevant professional network and experience in engagement of bi-lateral high level government exchange and dialogues
  • Team leader and collaborative player who can support AmCham Board of Governors and President, lead teams, work across functions and support Chapters as required
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Office 365 applications (PowerPoint, Teams etc.), and gain mastery of SharePoint, EventBank system and our Dynamics CRM
  • Fluent in both oral and written English and mandarin Chinese
