Job purpose

 

The Membership Director is one of the most critical, high profile roles at AmCham China, the most prominent member-centric foreign Chamber of Commerce in China. The Membership Director is responsible for leading the organization’s overall membership and comprehensive engagement strategies, which are central to the Chamber’s long-term sustainability and success.

 

Reporting directly to the President and teaming with other departments across the organization, the Membership Director will lead a team of four or more professionals with responsibilities for membership renewals, new member recruitment, member engagement and member satisfaction.  Further, the Membership Director will leverage technology systems, member data and data analytic tools to derive valuable insights on membership trends and engagement patterns that are critical for management decision-making across the Chamber.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • In collaboration with the President, design, develop, and implement annual membership recruitment and retention strategies and plans that align with AmCham China’s overall objectives and goals
  • Manage the overall membership lifecycle from application, onboarding, positive member experience, and renewal
  • Manage annual dues planning process, including dues estimates, revenue projections, and corresponding member outreach
  • Professionally represent and articulate AmCham’s mission to existing and/or prospective members through clear, consistent written and verbal communications
  • Develop innovative marketing and communications strategies, plans and campaigns to promote AmCham China and our multi-dimensional value proposition to existing and prospective members
  • Develop and manage metrics to understand membership trends and engagement across the Chamber. Prepare monthly and quarterly engagement reports, in collaboration with the management team, and develop outreach plans for low or unengaged members
  • Design and implement approaches to gauge member needs and assess satisfaction levels
  • Develop analytic tools leveraging membership and operational data to monitor program success and determine direction for future program activities
  • Collaborate with AmCham departments to enhance services and service levels to members and refine value propositions
  • Stay informed on industry and internal news/trends to develop membership strategies, synergies, and opportunities to create new member programs
  • Manage, motivate and grow a membership team excellent at communicating and delivering value to members

 

Qualifications

 

  • 10+ years of experience in relevant sales, marketing, customer management, customer satisfaction functions
  • Ideal candidates may have experience in the sales or marketing function of a corporation or relevant experience in the industry associations, hospitality, travel or similar industries
  • Comfortable communicating and presenting to member company senior executives
  • Strong management skills with an ability to proactively plan and meet deadlines
  • Team leader and collaborative player comfortable working with AmCham China Board of Governors and President, all other AmCham functions and Chapters as required
  • Ability to develop conclusions and make decisions with incomplete information
  • Comfortable drawing insights from large amounts of dispersed data and information
  • Proven capability to lead, coach, and mentor staff to achieve ambitious goals
  • Open minded, flexible and adaptable
  • Mature, self-confident and personable
  • Fluent in English
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA or equivalent degree desired
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office applications, AmCham China CRM and membership systems, and creating insightful reports to manage and measure membership performance.
