AmCham China Cooperation Programs Sign MOU with Unit of China Food and Drug Administration

May 13, 2015 – The American Chamber of Commerce in China yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding with the China Center for Food and Drug International Exchange to harness both government and industry resources in supporting capacity building and international exchange. The center is part of the China Food and Drug Administration, and the collaboration will involve AmCham China sister organizations the US-China Health Cooperation Program (HCP) and US-China Agriculture and Food Partnership (AFP).

“Industry is uniquely positioned to bring technology, standards, best practices, and training assets to the table to support the continuous improvement of safety and quality of food and medical products,” James Zimmerman, Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China, said at the signing ceremony. “By strengthening cooperation in these areas, we also hope to promote innovation and to identify important areas for more focused research and collaboration going forward.”

Through the HCP, AmCham China aims to improve registration processes and speed up access to innovative foreign-developed products by Chinese users. By cooperating with each other, the two sides aim to host regular events to update and discuss new regulatory changes, and monitor the distribution of active pharmaceutical ingredients to prevent counterfeiting.

Through the AFP, Amcham China will work cooperatively with Chinese partners through the livestock, meat and food production chain, product distribution and marketing systems in China. Through joint technical exchanges, workshops, and training, the goal is to foster the development of a strong safe food production system, build consumer confidence, and encourage appropriate regulatory oversight and controls

The HCP is a platform that brings private sector and government resources together to support healthcare system development, introduce new health technologies, promote innovations, and improve safety and quality of healthcare.

The AFP’s mission is to link US and Chinese public, private, and non-governmental organizations across the agricultural and food supply chain to advance mutual food security, food safety, and agricultural sustainability.
