Jeremy Huff

Morgan Stanley China Chief Operating Officer

Running for: Governor

Campaign Statement

The American Chamber of Commerce in China is at an inflection point.  Not only is the business environment in China more challenging and more uncertain than it has been in decades, but American companies are facing increasing challenges brought on by integration into the Chinese market, rapidly advancing technology and a new generation of employees.  Without strong leadership from the Board of Governors to build and grow a broad community that not only appeals to large corporates with specific policy goals, but also nurtures small businesses and young professionals, AmCham will face increasing difficulty to deliver value to its constituents in China and to the American business community.

I have spent more than ten years in China – first with Skadden, Arps, then with the National Basketball Association and now with Morgan Stanley.  I have been a member of AmCham throughout those ten years and was honored to serve the Chamber as Chair of the Young Professionals Committee for a number of years.  For me, AmCham has always been a source of community and networking.  It is a place where Americans abroad come to share their experience, both successes and failures, and join together as a community.  Over the years, I have seen that community weaken in the face of fewer Americans employed in country, increasing use of technology to manage remotely and young professionals faced with a variety of options for networking.

If elected to the Board of Governors, I will work to build and reinvigorate paths of engagement for small businesses and young professionals.  I will seek to broaden AmCham’s appeal and sharpen the value proposition for the full constituency of Americans and American businesses in China.  For many years AmCham has provided a community for its members, nurturing their growth both as individuals and as companies, and that community has cultivated an established membership of highly experienced professionals that provide invaluable policy perspective on US-China matters.  In order to continue that legacy, we must broaden AmCham’s community, reinvigorate membership and outreach channels and create events and engagement that attract the full constituency of Americans and American businesses in China.  We must renew our focus on building a strong American community and network in China for today’s small businesses that will become tomorrow’s giants and for the young professionals who will lead us into the future.

I am seeking your support for my candidacy and would be honored to serve AmCham and all of its constituents here in China.
