What brought you China?

I had the opportunity to visit China when I was 13 with my father and his friend, a doctor from Hong Kong, who was working in Yunnan. While I was there, I was able to see one of the more beautiful parts of China and fell in love with the culture. I knew I wanted to come back and after I finished college, I decided to move to China in 2011. I spent three years at Pacific Resources International (PRI) and then left to study Chinese at a university here in Beijing. After finishing my studies, I met with the CEO of Infinity and he brought me on.

What is your role at Infinity?

I do business development for small-medium enterprises (SME). Most of our clients are Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, who hear about us from other clients. With the “new normal,” China’s economy isn’t growing as fast as it used to. My role is to find smaller and more sustainable clients.

What is some of the best advice you’ve received?

Some of the best advice I’ve ever received came from my grandfather. He told me to be willing to take risks, but not to go so far that you put yourself in a position of weakness. The key is to find a balance in everything you do. I’ve tried to incorporate that into my life.

What are you currently reading?

Most of my interests are in philosophy or antiquity. I tend to read multiple books at the same time. Right now, I’m reading Gilgamesh and rereading, Pollution and the Death of Man, written by a Christian philosopher who argued for the incorporation of ecology into the Christian church. Living in China, with the pollution, it’s a very interesting read.

Do you have a favorite book?

The book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. It’s often misunderstood, but it offers tremendous wisdom about the world. The book explains that there is nothing new under the sun, the ways of man, different policies, political forces, etc. It forces you to think about life.

Why did you join AmCham China?

AmCham China is incredibly professional and has a genuine desire to have a dialog with China in order to bring about real change.  It’s an honor and a pleasure to be involved with AmCham China, not only because of the benefits that it offers Infinity, but also because the AmCham China community is tremendous.
