DC Outreach 2017

Every year, AmCham China sends a delegation of China-based key US business representatives to bring our advocacy message to Washington, DC. As a year of uncertainty and political transition both in the US and China, 2017 has been a particularly important year for this trip.

During the first week of May, AmCham China Chairman William Zarit led a 19-member delegation to Washington, DC to meet with members of Congress, administration officials, and think tanks to discuss the business climate of American firms in China and to share our thoughts and recommendations on policies impacting US-China economic relations. Some of our meeting highlights included:

  • Peter Navarro, Director of the Office of Manufacturing and Trade Policy

AmCham China also co-hosted, along with the US Chamber of Commerce, the 8th China Business Conference, which featured current and former senior government officials, leading business executives, and top economists, academics, and thought leaders. This year's conference featured President of Eurasia Group Ian Bremmer, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Senator Bob Corker, German Ambassador to China Michael Clauss, President and CEO of FedEx Freight and Chairman of the US Chamber of Commerce Michael Ducker, Chairman and CEO of C.V. Starr Maurice "Hank" Greenberg, Chair of the Albright Stonebridge Group and former US Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutlerrez, Chairman and CEO of Hills and Company and former US Trade Representative Carla Hills, Chairman of the Paulson Institute and former Secretary of Treasury Henry Paulson, President of the Asia Society Policy Institute and former Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd, and many more.
