On March 4, AmCham China hosted members in Beijing for the 2026 Government Policy Priorities & CGAC Strategic Planning Meeting, bringing together government affairs professionals from member companies to help shape the Chamber’s advocacy agenda for the year ahead.
This year’s meeting created a forum for members to provide input on both the Chamber’s 2026 policy priorities and its government engagement strategy.
AmCham China President Michael Hart opened with welcome remarks, emphasizing the importance of member participation in guiding the Chamber’s advocacy work. Hart noted that insights from the roundtable discussions will inform the Chamber’s 2026 Policy Priorities, which guide AmCham China’s policy advocacy, including the American Business in China White Paper, engagement with policymakers, and outreach in both China and the United States.
Travis Tanner, Vice Chair of the Board of Governors and Co-Chair of the Policy Committee, highlighted the evolving policy environment affecting American companies operating in China. Tanner pointed to several key developments shaping the business landscape, including US–China trade dynamics, tariffs, export controls, and continued discussions in Washington around supply chain security. On the China side, he noted policy developments such as responses to tariff measures, evolving government procurement standards related to domestic product definitions, and preparations for China’s upcoming Five-Year Plan.
Claire Ma, Vice President of AmCham China, provided an overview of the Chamber’s 2025 government engagement and advocacy efforts.
During the subsequent discussions, members shared the key challenges affecting their business operations in China. Attendees discussed topics including trade policy, export controls, regulatory transparency, market access, and the importance of dialogue between businesses and government stakeholders.
The event concluded with closing remarks from Bing Zhou, Co-Chair of CGAC, who reflected on the importance of ensuring that the Chamber’s government engagement efforts deliver meaningful outcomes. He also highlighted that continued dialogue with government stakeholders and strategized advocacy are essential to delivering member value.
