As part of AmCham China’s “Celebrating 250 Years of America” series, the Southwest Chapter hosted Stars, Stripes & Stories: A 4th of July Travel Night in Chengdu on June 18. The event brought together members and guests for an evening of travel stories, cultural exchange, and friendly competition ahead of Independence Day.
Southwest Chapter Executive Committee member Dr. Clare McDermott opened the evening by reflecting on the role of travel and people-to-people connections in building mutual understanding.
A US travel and culture quiz, hosted by Quizmaster Tim McDermott, was one of evening’s most popular activities. Participants tested their knowledge of American geography, history, sports, and pop culture, with plenty of friendly competition along the way.
The evening concluded with an open-mic storytelling session, where attendees shared memorable travel experiences of their own. From unexpected adventures to humorous mishaps, the stories brought plenty of laughter and audience participation.
