From September 26 to 28, AmCham China President Michael Hart returned to Tianjin, his former home for many years, participating in a series of events that showcased Tianjin’s development, vitality, and enduring charm.
September 26
Hart joined faculty, students, alumni, and distinguished guests to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Tianjin International School (TIS). In his remarks, he acknowledged TIS as a cornerstone of international education in Tianjin, emphasizing that its growth reflects the city’s ongoing internationalization. High-quality education, he noted, plays a key role in improving the local business environment and attracting international talent.
He was also invited to the “Foreign Chambers of Commerce Explore Hexi” event, where he engaged in dialogue with municipal and district leaders. During a walk through People’s Park, he enjoyed live demonstrations of intangible cultural heritage, including Peking Opera and traditional tea and mahua (twisted fried dough) making. The event deepened cultural understanding while highlighting Hexi District’s favorable business environment and innovation-driven development, setting the stage for deeper cooperation between member companies and local government.
September 27
On September 27, Hart led members on a walking tour through Tianjin’s former British and French concessions. Participants explored the city’s rich architectural and cultural legacy, gaining a deeper appreciation for the city’s historical significance and enduring global ties.
Wrapping up his trip, Hart attended a reception celebrating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The event brought together leaders from various sectors to mark this significant occasion and to express optimism for greater collaboration and exchange in the future.
