On May 18, the AmCham China Tianjin Chapter, in collaboration with the Tianjin People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Tianjin Blood Center, and Tianjin United Family Hospital, proudly hosted the “Love Without Borders, Tianjin Is Warmer Because of You” International Blood Donation Drive. The event brought together over 40 donors from 21 countries, underscoring the international community’s shared compassion and commitment to saving lives in Tianjin.
Luan Jianzhang, Vice Chairman of the Tianjin People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, delivered opening remarks, highlighting the event as a heartfelt joint initiative between Chinese and international communities. He emphasized that true people-to-people exchange is the foundation of global diplomacy, and that compassion and unity among ordinary citizens are powerful forces for peace and development.
Representing AmCham China Tianjin, Vice Chair Jeremy Carman shared, “Blood donation is the foundation of any thriving community. We believe initiatives like this not only unite people but also reinforce our collective commitment to safeguarding the place we all call home.”
Gao Jie, Director of the Tianjin Blood Center, commended the participation of international donors from various cultural backgrounds. She noted that while our appearances and languages may differ, our shared respect for life and humanity unites us.
Daniel Liu, President of Tianjin United Family Hospital, provided a professional perspective on the health benefits of blood donation. He encouraged attendees to share this information with others to build broader awareness and engagement with this vital cause.
Peter Mecoy, an Australian resident of Tianjin, exemplified the spirit of selflessness by sharing his story of donating “panda blood” over 300 times. He called on others to join the effort and expressed hope that this initiative would evolve into a long-term, sustainable campaign.
The event concluded with a total of 9,200 milliliters of blood donated by foreign students and residents from the United States, Australia, Germany, Russia, and Tianjin, along with United Family Hospital medical staff.
