Campaign Statement
AmCham China has been playing an increasingly important role in the communications and exchange between American business community and the Chinese authorities at all levels. Given the multiple external challenges posed by geopolitical developments and evolving market dynamics, AmCham China has leveraged its unique role as a bridge to offer suggestions on behalf of member companies to the government side and facilitate the smooth dialogues between the business community and various local stakeholders. As a member company, 3M has greatly benefited from all these efficient and effective communications on macroeconomic topics, trade policies, prominent challenges in the bilateral relationship, and also numerous technical issues. It would be my great honor to serve on the Board and to assist the business community through AmCham China, which is believed to continue to play an irreplaceable role at this critical time.
Registered in China in 1984, 3M China was the first wholly foreign-invested enterprise established outside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. In that year, China’s GDP was USD 260 billion, about 2.1% of the world economy, per capita GDP was USD 200-300. In 2021, the corresponding data jumped to USD 17.7 trillion, 18%, and over USD 12,000 respectively. To date, 3M has established 9 manufacturing sites, 20 branch offices, 1 R&D center and 4 technical centers in China, with about 8,000 employees. Through my nearly 30 years at 3M, I have proudly witnessed the growth of the company in tune with the development of China economy. As an innovation leader, 3M is committed to this market and helping to achieve a constructive U.S.-China trade ties that meet the interests of American business in China. As a business leader, I am increasingly aware of the need for business community representatives to work closely with one another to explore new ideas and identify more resources to engage with local stakeholders. AmCham China is a perfect platform to help our community to achieve that goal.
In the years ahead we may continue to face severe challenges, but we can work together as a strong community to face up to these challenges. By leveraging my industry expertise and international experiences, I stand ready to play my part and lead by contributing my time and energy, to help grow the AmCham China community.
