Campaign Statement

Dear AmCham China colleagues and friends,

My name is Fernando Vallina, and I am running for a seat on the 2020 AmCham China Board of
Governors. I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and ask for your support and vote.

For the past almost three years, I have been ExxonMobil’s Lead Country Manager in China. Including prior assignments, I have spent a total of seven years living in PRC, where my youngest daughter was born. Even in between my assignments here, China was always critical for the different roles I filled within my Company, so for the last 22 years I have regularly visited and spent time in‐country.

Aside from my work at ExxonMobil, I also serve on the Board of the Association of International Chemical Manufacturers in China (AICM), and on the Executive Board of the Multinational Companies Committee of the Chinese Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation (CPCIF).

My years in China have exposed me regularly to the challenges and opportunities that come with doing business in the country. The current trade issues add a layer of complexity to our work, independently of the sectors in which our companies compete. If elected, I would target to bring the learnings from all these years to help our members cope with the regulatory, social and business environment challenges that we all experience. I would also commit my time and effort to contribute to develop formal Board positions on the critical issues we face, from legislation‐driven reform to future government policies impacting our businesses, trade and many others. An equitable, competitively neutral environment for American companies in China continues to be our target and objective.

AmCham is celebrating this year its 100 year legacy in China. My own company is also busy preparing for our 128 anniversary in the country. We want to continue growing together, making further economic and social contributions in the communities where we operate, and with your support, I hope to be able to help in any way I can from a position on the Board.

Thank you very much for your consideration.
