The Green Finance Center is dedicated to promoting market-oriented solutions and promoting the development of China’s green finance market. The Center houses the Institute’s efforts on green finance including carbon markets development in China, starting the US-China Green Fund, and advising the G20 green finance study group. Building on these efforts and by focusing on three core areas—carbon, finance and fintech—the Center aims to promote market-driven solutions to foster a vibrant international green finance market through convening, advocacy, thought leadership, and our expertise.

Job Description

The Associate Director of the Green Finance Center is responsible for supporting the green finance initiatives by staying on top of policy updates, trends and developments in the green finance related areas, effectively communicating these findings to a broad internal and external audience through clear, concise materials; and having the ability to develop and drive the projects independently of the Green Finance Center forward; working closely with members of the Paulson Institute’s Green Finance Center team in China and the United States, other project teams, and the Institute’s Chinese and foreign partner institutions to oversee all aspects of the Green Finance Center’s policy and industry research. Using resourcefulness and keen attention to detail, Candidate will plan, organize and execute events and meetings where government and business leaders share knowledge and ideas. Candidates must have excellent strategic, analytical, and writing skills, as well as communication and teamwork skills.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Managing Director of the Green Finance Center in planning, developing and executing the Green Finance Center’s projects strategy; arranging the project budget, management, implementation and other related work to ensure that the projects of the Green Finance Center has remarkable impact
  • Continuously focus on policy and green finance development in the fields of climate, environment, national carbon market and sustainable development; report and make recommendations to the Green Finance Center; write high-quality research reports; write regular blog and/or op-ed articles; propose interview topics and arrange interviews; and make constructive policy recommendations to relevant government agencies
  • Assist in communication and cooperation between the Green Finance Center and relevant government agencies, institutions and other domestic and international partners; assist in arranging or representing the Green Finance Center to meet and liaise with relevant institutions on a daily basis to track and identify urgent and important research areas and industry trends in real time
  • Assist in planning and organizing high-level seminars, inviting government officials, academic and business leaders, and NGO representatives to attend meetings on topics related to the Green Finance Center’s research projects
  • Monitor and attend China-based events sponsored by other organizations on green finance, climate, environment and sustainability, and provide write ups and frequent updates on the activities of other organizations in an effort to refine and improve our overall green finance activities.
  • Support visits and activities of PI senior executives while in China, including recommendations for meetings and preparation of briefing papers.
  • Promote the activities, research results and policy recommendations of the Paulson Institute
  • Lend support to other team members of the Paulson Institute, especially the Green Finance Cente

Qualifications

  • Familiar with green finance, economics, climate, environment, sustainability, public policy, at least two areas of work experience, and at least five years of work experience
  • Excellent communication skills and project management skill
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Excellent writing skills in English and Chinese
  • Professional written and presentation skills, especially in the use of software such as PowerPoint and Excel to present through charts and presentations
  • Native Chinese speaker, fluent in English
  • Chinese nationality or holding a Chinese permanent residence card

  • Research skills: demonstrated ability to conduct thorough research on green finance, climate, environment and sustainability topic
  • Policy savvy: fully understand the green finance, climate, environment and sustainability policies of China and the U.S., keep track of major policy trends, and familiar with the current status of the sustainability field and the related financial industry and industrial landscape in China and the U.S.
  • Interdisciplinary: Ability to identify and define important issues related to green finance, climate, environment and sustainable development and make sound research proposals
  • Learning and problem solving: quickly grasp the necessary knowledge of unfamiliar areas, courageous to take on the work, strong adaptability, able to handle tight schedules and heavy tasks
  • Project and event management skill: using resourcefulness and keen attention to detail, Candidate will plan, organize and execute projects, events and meetings where government and business leaders share knowledge and ideas. Having the ability to work independently on projects
  • Sophisticated communication skills: good communication skills and extensive connections with policy makers and project partner institutions
  • Teamwork: good team player and well being part of a team, pragmatic and low key
