The American Chamber of Commerce in the People’s Republic of China is a non-profit, nongovernmental organization representing nearly 1,000 U.S. companies operating across China, including most of the Fortune 500. The Chamber’s nationwide mission is to help American companies succeed in China through advocacy, insights, relationships, and business support services. With offices in Beijing, Tianjin, Dalian, Shenyang, and Wuhan. AmCham China has 25 Working Groups and holds more than 300 events per year.
We are currently seeking qualified candidates with the passion, capabilities, and experience to support AmCham China’s government affairs and policy-related services. Operating at the heart of the foreign business community in China, this position is a unique, exceptional opportunity to engage with leaders of global companies and government officials from the US and China in a fast-paced, creative, and collaborative environment.
The direction of today’s complex US-China relationship has significant ramifications for both countries and the world. As the largest foreign chamber of commerce in China, AmCham China plays an important role in supporting a more positive commercial bilateral relationship. This position provides the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to play a constructive role in building a more sustainable US-China commercial relationship.

Job Overview
As a primary pillar in our pursuit of improving the business environment and helping American companies succeed in China, AmCham China’s advocacy efforts address a wide scope of industry needs and extend from the central to the local levels of both the Chinese and US governments. AmCham China advocates on behalf of our members’ evolving needs in the ever-changing China business landscape through a host of government engagement efforts which are bolstered by key advocacy documents such as our annual China Business Climate Survey Report and American Business in China White Paper.
AmCham China is not affiliated with any branch of government but works closely with both the Chinese and US governments. Such government engagement is underpinned by the Chamber’s vision to enhance the business environment in China and strengthen cooperation and understanding between the US and China.
The GA and Policy Associate/Manager will support implementation of the Chamber’s relevant initiatives through delivery of traditional and new value-added services in coordination with colleagues across the organization, ensuring maximum member value in the core Chamber areas of Advocacy, Access, and Insights. This will include a primary focus on the monitoring of regulatory and legislative changes across a wide variety of industries and sectors, while driving AmCham China’s policy and advocacy efforts through the publication of policy reports – including the annual White Paper, government submissions and outreach, and programs and events with the support of AmCham China’s Policy Committee.
Duties and responsibilities
Primary (60% – USG 30%, White Paper 30%):
- Act as the primary liaison between AmCham China and US government
- Monitor and analyze changes in US regulations and legislation, providing regular updates to AmCham members and staff.
- Provide timely policy insights to assist members in shaping their business strategies, engaging with governments, and navigating US-China relations and policy landscape.
- Contribute to policy-focused analysis, surveys, perspectives, and reports, including regulatory submissions to both US and Chinese governments.
- Support the drafting, editing, and production process for the annual AmCham China White Paper
Secondary (40%):
- Plan and implement other events, meetings and projects, in close coordination with other members of the GAP and other teams
- Serve as principal staff support to the AmCham China Policy Committee
- Prepare and co-deliver briefings on behalf of AmCham China
- Log member service needs and services delivered in the Dynamics CRM, to populate the member engagement scorecards and enable cross-chamber collaboration
- Handle other ad-hoc tasks assigned by leadership.
Qualifications
- University degree and at least 2 years post college relevant full-time employment in a role requiring strong analytic, writing, organizational and communication skills (non-Chinese applicants must also be at least 25 years of age prior to position start date for Chinese work permit purposes)
- Exceptional writing and editorial skills, demonstrated in a fast-paced work environment
- Appreciation for quality and detail gained in a rigorous academic and work environment
- Keen interest in conducting policy research
- Critical thinker with strong analytic skills; able to derive conclusions from incomplete information
- General knowledge of economics, policy and business issues and trends in China
- Native English speaker or equivalent proficiency with exceptional written command of the language and ability to conduct research and communicate in Chinese
- Ability to engage with senior corporate executives and US and Chinese government officials
- Ability to function in a diverse, multi-cultural organization with a high-performance culture
- Demonstrate proficiency in Office 365 applications (PowerPoint, Teams, etc.)
- Willingness to commit to working in Beijing for a minimum of two years
- Master’s degree in a relevant major/discipline highly preferred
