We are encouraged by the forward momentum in the US-China trade talks reflected in announcements by the two governments over the past few days, and we appreciate the persistent effort by negotiators from both sides to address longstanding issues in our bilateral trade relationship.
We hope that an initial agreement can be reached and signed in short order, allowing the teams to move onto the most critical issues – improved market access for US investors, products, and services in China commensurate with what Chinese investors, products, and services enjoy in the US; more robust IP protection; and the elimination of state subsidies and industrial policy tools that distort global markets in key industry sectors – all of which would help to level the playing field for domestic and foreign companies.
