Campaign Statement
Dear Friends and Fellow Members of AmCham China,
I am truly grateful for the opportunity to reach out to you as I run for reelection to the AmCham China Board. Serving as Vice Chair and a Board member over the past years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my career. It has allowed me to work alongside passionate leaders and dedicated professionals towards our shared goal: to enable a thriving, resilient, and collaborative business environment for US companies in China. Today I would like to seek your support again for my reelection so I could continue to do the above.
In today’s world that is BANI – Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear and Incomprehensible, we need to be very sharp and agile about value proposition for our products and services. Then what is the value of AmCham? Do we still need it and why? To me, the answer is always yes. We join AmCham to get access to our peers, to the government stakeholders, to the opportunity of collective advocacy, and to the sharing of insights. All of them matter even more today than ever before. AmCham has done a terrific job in presenting real-world insights to both the US and Chinese government, convening the US businesses – big or small, and voicing concerns on their behalf in the dialogue with policy makers. And we could have the Chamber do more, and do it better, by focusing on the most relevant policy topics, creating more engagements and discussions among ourselves or with the government, and showing up more, strong and united, where the US businesses need to have a voice.
If elected again, I pledge three things.
The first is trust.
In my nearly three decades of career at the intersection of business and policy, I have witnessed how trust between people can transform challenges into opportunities, and how the lack of it leads to the opposite. When we have issues, trust does not guarantee immediate answers, but can always set us on a journey to find them. Trust comes from dialogue and engagement — open, honest and empathetic exchanges that go beyond surface-level assumptions. AmCham China plays a critical role in facilitating and forming a part of such exchanges between Washington and Beijing. If reelected, I pledge to help AmCham do more trust-building for the sake of all of us in the business community and the wider bilateral relations.
The second is unity.
The past five years have gone through many crises, ranging from global pandemics to shifting geopolitical dynamics. Moments like these have tested our resilience but also revealed the strength of unity. I am always marvelled at how much people value the chance to meet, to share perspectives, and to find common ground. It is you, the incredible membership we have at AmCham China, that is our biggest asset. If reelected, my pledge is to encourage more tailored engagement from the Chamber to meet differing membership needs while maintaining the strong, shared platform for all.
The third is pragmatism.
Early in my career, I learned that the key to success is not about having all the answers, instead, it is about being willing to listen, learn, and sometimes unlearn. The world around us is constantly evolving, and staying humble and open to new ideas is essential to keep us up. One of the Chamber’s strengths lies in our ability to listen widely, generate insights and share, and doing that in an agile way. If reelected, my pledge is to ensure that our advocacy is principled, pragmatic and inclusive, and that our Chamber remains a trusted partner in navigating the complexities of the Chinese market.
Dear Friends,
We live in a historic age, where big swings are turning everything upside down. But even in SWINGS there is a WIN. I am an optimist and I hope I could have the opportunity to apply that optimism to the challenging BANI world we are all caught up in by serving on the AmCham Board again. Your vote will help that come true.
Thank you!
