On June 4, AmCham China, Tianjin, together with Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd. (CTL) embarked on an exclusive company tour of Caterpillar that featured a comprehensive lecture on automation & lean manufacturing.

This event attracted nearly 70 participants, including AmCham Tianjin members, experts from the industry, as well as students from the International School of Tianjin, Admiral Farragut Academy Tianjin, and Haileybury International School Tianjin.

The event was kicked off by opening remarks delivered by Martin Winchell, Chairman of AmCham China, Tianjin, Nathan Dunbar, Supply Chain Manager of Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd., and Patrick Zhang, General Manager of Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd. Following the opening remarks, Sean Cao, Technical Services Manager of Caterpillar Tianjin Ltd., gave a presentation introducing Caterpillar’s automation and manufacturing practices.

Cao, in addition to automation and lean manufacturing experts Dwight Nordstrom, Chairman of PRI Management and Consulting Ltd. and Chairman of AmCham China’s Manufacturing & Sourcing Forum, Patrick Powers, Director of Government Affairs at Rockwell Automation, and Gary Smith, Manufacturing Technical Steward and Lean Advisor at Caterpillar held a panel discussion regarding automation and manufacturing in which the four speakers gave their insights into the way cyber security impacts the ability of factories to implement SMART manufacturing and automation, and the differences in facilities found in different countries.

This was the 20th stop in AmCham China Tianjin's series of company tours introducing our members to the world of advanced manufacturing, with previous stops at Toyota, Volkswagen, Boeing, GE, ADM, Bombardier, TCW, and many more.

This event is part of Amcham Tianjin Chapter's Manufacturing and Sustainability forum and extends additional focus on topics such as Advanced Manufacturing, Supply Chain Planning, and Sustainability. Amcham China, Tianjin branch will work throughout the year to have a member company host events that specialize in areas of need for our member companies. Our next stop will be this fall, focusing on supply chain.
