On October 14, AmCham China’s Government Affairs community gathered at the Conrad Beijing for an exclusive off-the-record conversation with Barbara Weisel, former Assistant USTR and Chief US Negotiator for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Drawing on over two decades of experience at the Office of the US Trade Representative, Weisel delivered a compelling assessment of current US trade policy and the evolving American business response in Asia. Her remarks highlighted key regulatory challenges in sectors like pharmaceuticals, as well as broader shifts in US engagement strategies across Japan and Southeast Asia.
Now a nonresident scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, she also reflected on her recent work advising multinational clients on trade and digital policy. The session concluded with a Q&A moderated by AmCham China President Michael Hart, followed by a networking reception.
