Morgan Stanley China Chief Operating Officer for China

Campaign Statement

US-China relations are at an inflection point, and the work of the American Chamber of Commerce is more important than ever.  Although geopolitical challenges may translate into near term uncertainties for American businesses operating in China, China continues to be an important market for the long term.  Against this backdrop, AmCham China is well positioned to provide strong leadership and support for the American business community as it works through these issues.  The Board of Governors should provide broad representation for the Chamber’s constituent members and foster an inclusive and supportive environment, not just for policy lobbying efforts, but also for day-to-day member support and information sharing on the ground in China.  After serving on the Board this past year, I am seeking re-election to the Board to continue representing and building the community.

The Chamber’s strength lies in its membership, and over the course of this past year as a member of the Board of Governors, I have worked with the Board to think critically about how to make our membership more accessible and inclusive for American businesses, small and large, operating in China.  This effort included re-categorizing membership and reducing costs for individuals and start-up enterprises.  With more accessible membership, I look forward to a broad and growing community of members who can come together around a common goal of promoting American business interests in China.

I have spent more than ten years in China – first with Skadden, Arps, then with the National Basketball Association and now with Morgan Stanley.  I have been a member of AmCham since 2007 and have been honored to serve the Chamber as a member of the Board of Governors this year and previously as Chair of the Young Professionals Committee for a number of years.  For me, AmCham has been a source of community and networking.  It is a place where Americans come to share their experience, both successes and failures, and join together as a community.

If re-elected to the Board of Governors, I will renew my resolve to build and reinvigorate paths of engagement for the full community of American businesses in China.  I will seek to broaden AmCham’s appeal and sharpen the value proposition for the full constituency of Americans and American companies working in China.  For many years AmCham has provided a community for its members, nurturing their growth both as individuals and as companies, and we now enjoy an established membership of highly experienced professionals that provide invaluable policy perspective on US-China matters.  Now, more than ever, it is critical that we continue that legacy, by renewing our focus on building strong a American community and network in China for today’s small businesses that will become tomorrow’s giants and for the young professionals who will lead us into the future.

I am seeking your support for my candidacy and would be honored to serve AmCham and all of its constituents here in China.
