As China marks the 40th anniversary of Reform and Opening Up, an initiative that sparked a period of economic growth unprecedented in global history, AmCham China is privileged to have witnessed that remarkable transformation, of which the country can be proud. It has also been an honor for AmCham China and its members to have played a role in the growth of the country’s economy, something that has benefited not just US and Chinese companies, but the world as a whole.

In the late 1990s, when US-China relations were at a low ebb, AmCham China was instrumental in helping to get bilateral relations back on track, and supporting China’s bid for accession into the WTO, a move that has been critical for continued growth in the reform and opening up process.

President Xi’s speech in Beijing this week expressed a desire for further reforms, a sentiment welcomed by AmCham China. In particular, President Xi’s call for more support of the private sector is a positive sign.

As we move into 2019, which marks the 100th year of AmCham China’s heritage, the Chamber eagerly anticipates China’s continued reforms and increased market access, which will benefit the wider Chinese economy. AmCham China stands ready to support this process in the years ahead, by helping business in China and building bridges between the two sides.
