Campaign Statement

The coming year will be one of unprecedented importance with respect to repairing the serious damage which has been done to the U.S.-China relationship. I am proud to have spent the last 40 years engaged in activities to further this important relationship, whether as an entrepreneur bringing new concepts in medicine and healthcare to the Chinese market, or as a philanthropist in my role as founder of the United Foundation for China’s Health, or as a community organizer in my role as the founding chair of the China Healthcare Partnership, or as a member of the U.S.-China Business Council Board of Directors- I have taken seriously the responsibility to maximize my impact as an individual, and as a leader, to further the peaceful relations between our countries, through promoting our business and societal collaboration and understanding.

I previously served for several years as a member of the Amcham-China Board of Governors in the lead-up to PNTR and China’s WTO accession.  I believe that the work that we did at that time as  a board, both with the U.S. and Chinese Government, as well as with the  business communities had a positive impact throughout that critical juncture in the relationship. During that crucial period I had the honor of participating in the Amcham-China Door Knock and speaking to many  senior members of the US government about the realities and the importance of the US-China relationship to both countries.  Since then I have continued to contribute to Amcham through the Healthcare Forum and the Healthcare Cooperation Program.   Every year I have contributed to the writing of the Healthcare section of the Amcham White Paper.

I am the proud recipient of AMCHAMs inaugural “Pioneer Award.”  as well as the Beijing Friendship Great Wall.

If elected I would like to commit to further increasing my efforts toward the improvement of the relationship and supporting and improving the business and investment environment.
