The 2017 American Ball is now only a few weeks away, and AmCham China is almost ready for the inevitable revelry. This year our theme is the “8th Kingdom” – watch the trailer if you still need inspiration for the costume competition. If you submit a photo of your costume by March 31, you can win a free ticket!

In past years, AmCham China has raised over RMB 12 million to help improve the lives of thousands of families in China. This year, AmCham China has partnered with Educating Girls of Rural China (EGRC) to bring education opportunities to some of the most disadvantaged communities in China. A portion of this year’s proceeds will also be donated to the charities that our largest sponsors – the “Protectors of the Realm” – select as recipients. This year, our sponsors have chosen organizations that are similarly committed to helping improve communities across China.

United Family Healthcare – United Foundation for China’s Health

United Family Healthcare has selected the United Foundation for China’s Health (UFCH) as their charity recipient, in order to support the charity’s mission of providing access to innovative, multidisciplinary healthcare to vulnerable populations in China. By partnering with local agencies, UFCH offers free or heavily subsidized medical care to orphans, disabled, the abused, migrant workers, and the elderly.

NBA – Yao Foundation

The NBA has partnered with the Yao Foundation to improve the educational experience of children all across China. Founded by a former NBA superstar from China, Yao Ming, the mission of the foundation is to promote the all-around development of Chinese youth by providing opportunities to improve themselves in the aspect of education, sports skills, health and self-esteem.

Their work encompasses an enormous range of activities, and has directly benefitted more than 500,000 students across 25 provinces of China. From rebuilding schools to improving exercise facilities, the Yao Foundation also partners with more than 20 companies operating in China to improve the facilities of existing schools by providing libraries, computers, kitchens, and exercise facilities.

ConocoPhillips – The Love & Hope Project

The Love & Hope Project was developed by the China Association of Social Workers (CASW) and the TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital (TICH) of Tianjin to fund heart surgery for two-to-14-year-old children born with heart conditions or who suffer from heart disease. The project is specifically aimed at orphans and children from severely deprived families.

Between 2008 and 2015, ConocoPhillips donated RMB 5.75 million (approx. US $1 million) to fund heart surgery for about 400 severely underprivileged children born with congenital heart disease.  In addition to donations, the company’s Employee Volunteer Committee frequently calls on employees to visit children receiving treatment at the hospital.
