On April 28, AmCham China’s Education Committee hosted Get Ready to Study in the US Today in Beijing, bringing together government, academic, and industry experts to share insights on US visa policies, emerging education trends, and student preparation.

The event opened with remarks from Perry Landesberg, Vice Consul at the US Embassy in Beijing, who shared updates on US visa policies and key considerations for applicants.

The session then featured presentations on key aspects of studying abroad. Claudia Cheng, Head of Technology at Ivy Global Scholars, discussed emerging trends in US study and evolving student priorities. Mary Chan, Partner and Clinical Mental Health Counsellor at Cognitive Assurance Life Management (CALM) International Pte. Ltd., highlighted the importance of student mental health and well-being while studying abroad. Stephanie Tong, General Sales Manager, North China at United Airlines, shared practical travel and pre-departure guidance for students preparing to relocate to the US.

The event concluded with a panel discussion moderated by Jingyu Wang, Executive Director of Notre Dame Beijing, University of Notre Dame. Panelists included Mary Chan, Claudia Cheng, and Dr. Chris Oniya, Professor and Lecturer at the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE). The discussion explored opportunities and risks associated with studying in the US, while offering practical strategies for students and families navigating an increasingly complex global environment.
