It's that time of year again when you get to decide the direction of AmCham China's future by voting for the members of the AmCham China Board of Governors! The Board holds a pivotal role by guiding the operations of the Chamber and ensuring AmCham China's actions are in line with our members' needs for advocacy, information, business development, and professional growth. But while the Board helps to guide our path, it’s your vote that chooses the Board, so please do take the time to make your vote count in what is shaping up to be the most competitive Board election in recent years.

A SurveyMonkey ballot has been sent to each of the Chamber's corporate member voting representatives and individual voting members via an email from AmCham China Notice with detailed instructions on how to vote. Please cast your vote by 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 9. You will have two chances to meet the candidates in person, including one at this year’s Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, November 21.

Provided below are the biographies and campaign statements of the candidates running for the Board of Governors. The information is also accessible through the URLs provided on the SurveyMonkey ballot.

In addition to electing our new Board of Governors, on the same ballot, you are also asked to vote on two proposed amendments:

  1. Changes to the Constitution that move membership categories and requirements to the By-laws and allow them to be changed from time to time by the Board of Governors. AmCham was started nearly 18 years ago and the membership categories largely reflect the nature of American business in China at that time. Today, American interests in China are broader, deeper and much more varied. For example there are now many small American businesses and individual American entrepreneurs operating in China. The Board of Governors would like to be more responsive to the needs of this vibrant American business community, but has sometimes found itself severely hamstrung in its ability to serve these interests by anachronistic provisions of the Constitution. The changes remove the membership categories and requirements from the Constitution and allow the Board of Directors to put them in the By-laws, which the Board can amend from time to time as the American business community in China continues to evolve.

  1. A change to the Constitution that would clarify the process for the election of the Chair and Vice Chairs by the Board to ensure that the term of those officers begins on January 1 of the following year.
